I'm not sure where this should go but FAQs seems appropriate enough...
I'd like to informally suggest a new section of threads on the forum. All of the discussion of lyric interpretation seems dispersed, unorganized, and difficult to find, so I think it would make sense to have a section devoted just to this kind of discussion, with each song getting its own thread. What do you think? - "You peer inside yourself..." |

Like on songmeanings. the link to regina's page btw http://www.songmeanings.net/ar.../songs/137438962288/ Also, I was thinking about starting a thread that doesn't dig so deep into each song, but where you could discuss small quotes and stuff you've been thinking about. Maybe that thread could fit in that category too... or maybe we don't need it. Personally, I think if they're going to add another section they need to get rid of one or two. I've never liked it when message boards add an entire section for a specific tour or album [for many reasons. 1) because where do you put all those threads once the next album is out, do you combine it with another, or just get rid of them, or leave it cluttering up space. And 2) all that can be avoided by having an all encompassing generic "Music" section]
Also, "Upon the New Year Coming", while old and well established for regular posters, is a very vague name for an entire section, especially when it has no description. So yeah, that would be fine, ThisIsHowItWorks, but they'd need to clean up the home page of sections first. I mean, for the average newcomer, having entire sections called "Rants" and "Soup Recipes" has got to be confusing enough :P |

I disagree. I think the fact that there is a board purely devoted to soup recipes is one of Brumstix most endearing qualities. It's very homey. I like our sections very much. I'm very attached to them. They're not like every other message board, that's why I like them. Though I do agree, that a section for lyric discussions would be a "beneficial and legitimate pursuit."  And the little flower is like “What the fuck? I'm just a pink with blue spots little flower! And nobody else is like me!” |

I think that's a really good idea. I agree with you that the discussions about lyric/song interpretations/thoughts are scattered all over the place and it gets confusing. and I gotta say that in part I agree with Sgtcampsalot as well, this place is kinda messy. BUt I like it that there's a soup recipe section. it doesn't confuse me, i get it, there's a section for soup. but..."upon the new year coming..." - i never got that. its such a random section. what is supposed to go in there really? |

I'm really going by remembering what my mindset was when I started reading here, and then when I started posting. In both cases I was severely disoriented and I wouldn't want new fans to be turned away by that. Plus, I stand by my stance AGAINST whole sections for a certain album/tour, for ANY band's message board. They're so counterintuitive to their intent and just make everything more spread out and less comprehensive. |

i'd /love/ a section for lyric discussion! that would be beast! (i've been using that word all day...)
would it have threads set out very organzed-y, like a thread for every song? or only for every released song? Or for each album? (how messy...) i think this might be a job for mod (who seems to be lurking quite a lot lately, shutting down a lot of poor Brady's threads. [don't feel bad-you're brave to create them at all! it's great that you're so enthusiastic about the Stix!!]) anyway, i guess mod would be the one to open it up, right? and then i assume s/he will leave threads up to us. Shall we use the current thread as HQ, assuming this thing gets liftoff? i'm way too excited, already coming up with a gameplan. i need to calm down.. She won't make a sound, alone in this fight with herself and the fears whispering if she stands, she'll fall down. Well yes, I'm pretty sure mod is the only one who can set up a new section. I suppose each song would get a thread... Do you think they should be started all at once, or added one at a time as different songs strike stixers' fancies?
I do the same thing all the time! I'm glad you're excited about this and have a lot of ideas. It will be great to not be the only one really interested in the idea when (and if) it happens. Oh and about using the current thread as HQ, yeah that seems appropriate. - "You peer inside yourself..." |
