I noticed this a little while ago, but there are two Regina references to the number "42" (I haven't seen the HG2G movie yet, but was bought up listening to my parents' vinyl of the original radio show..)..
Firstly in "Loveology" "sit down class, open up your textbooks to page forty-two" and also I'm certain there's a reference somewhere in the Survival Guide 'zine.. maybe in the DVD she says "turn to page forty-two of your survival guides.."? I don't have mine with me now so I can't quote it, but if someone else has a copy.. look for that! (those that don't know the story.. 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything xx _____________________________________ free spektor sheet music: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/regispek/ |

Heh.
I've never seen or read anything HGtoG-related (I'm afraid to admit), but yeah, I noticed Regina's references, too. I never really thought about how she picked 42, though. I do remember reading once about a "group," I guess you would call them that thought that another number was the answer to everything - 37, I think. I think it may have been some students who did some sort of experiment or some such thing... I'll see if I can find a link or something. |

hehe.. I remember seeing an interview with Douglas Adams shortly after he died, and he said he picked that number (I think with some other people), deciding it was the funniest number

haha the funniest number?
if you sit down and think about them long enough all numbers are pretty funny. i didn't read the book, i'm a bad person, but did see the movie last week and was thoroughly entertained. [but i swear i could hear the laughter] |

I suppose 42 is funny, in that it's so random.
I couldn't find anything on that group I was talking about, though. I wish I could remember the number they had in mind... I guess I'll try to look a little more. |

I think that 11 is one of the funny ones. Only when it is pronounced eleventeen though. I've only heard my grandparents say it that way.

Okay, here's a possible coincidence:
Shawn just mentioned 11 and I was reminded that in the past week or two, a singer named Maria Taylor has released an album called 11:11. Amazon.com link to Maria Taylor's album Sidenote: I listened to some of the samples, and they did sound cool... she's got a mellow sound that could make for good relaxation music. Well, anyway, I figured that her having an album called 11:11 was just too weird, and in the process of searching for a link to the album, I saw that there's a book that talks about there being 1,111 "Spirit Guardians," and that they are "Spirit Helpers." Supposedly, the time 11:11 is a "signal of their presence." Amazon.com link to the book I'm talking about, which goes into more detail. I'm guessing that both Maria's and Regina's album title came from these ideas? Maybe? Maybe not, but still a neat little thing, I thought. Also, there have been about 2 or 3 occasions where I woke up at exactly 11:11 am, without setting an alarm or anything. No foolin'... no foolin'. I always thought it was a cool little tidbit 'cause of Regina, but now it seems... more interesting, I guess. |

That is pretty interesting. I never looked into 11:11 that much. (Probably because I was too bummed out I couldn't get the physical CD) Thanks for the heads-up. I'll head over to amazon and check the book and CD out.

The Dresden Dolls bass drum with the clock on it reads 11:11. Something about the year 2011 when it's 11:11 that I read somewhere.
'Your' does not mean 'You are'. |

on the topic of 11:11... in the bright eyes video for easy/lucky/free... at the line "i set my watch to the atomic clock", conor writes 11:11 on the mirror...

I just saw that Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire has a song called 11:11. It's from their 2001 album Swimming Hour.
That's it - if anyone tells me that Ben Kweller has a song or something called "11:11," I'm gonna have a cow. A big one. Edit: Okay, snagged the Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire song, and I gotta say that it's pretty darn awesome. I had heard some clips of their stuff a long time ago, and it sounded kinda 1930's-ish, and "11:11" sounds "more modern," I guess, but I think I will listen to it several more times in a row now - which is to say, a lot.
