Thought it was a fun idea. okay, so let your voice be heard! Smiler Through thought provoking elimination, reach a conclusion and share your opinion on Regina's most underrated and underappreciated song(s)!

This is how it works...
STEP 1- List your pick for the most underrated, underappreciated song on each album. ONE SONG PICK FOR EACH ALBUM
***(Quick links for album tracklists)***
11:11
Songs
Soviet Kitsch
Begin to Hope (including all bonus songs, itunes tracks and special editions)
Far (including all bonus songs, itunes tracks and special editions)

Step 2- Now list your pick of 2 songs from ALL other known songs. This includes songs from the demo cassette, Live at Bull Moose and all other recorded demos and recorded songs performed live.

Step 3- After listing your pick of these seven songs, narrow it down to One final song.

Step 4- (optional of course) Explain why you picked each of the seven songs and explain why you chose your final song.

LETS DO IT Big Grin

11:11- Flyin'
Songs- Aching to Pupate
Soviet Kitsch- Ode to Divorce
Begin to Hope- Another Town
Far- Riot Gear
Random underated songs-
Secret Stash
Dust to Dust

This is hard. I'd have to choose, out of all of those, I'd have to choose Secret Stash because I really love the lyrics and I feel that more people need to pay more attention to it.

Songs- Lounge
Soviet Kitsch- The Flowers
Begin To Hope- Lady
Far- Man of a Thousand Faces
Random- Begin To Hope, Ain't No Cover

11:11- Buildings
Songs- Prisoners
Soviet Kitsch- Us
Begin To Hope- 20 Years Of Snow
Far- Laughing With
Random- Love You're A Whore & Small Town Moon

This is very hard, but I am going to have to pick Us. This song means a lot to me, I think it is the best song written by Regina, the lyrics are amazing, and it is so creative. Great song.

? What is this? I'm guessing "Flyin'," but idk...

My picks are:

11:11- Rejazz (seriously, no one talks about that song and it makes me sad...)
Songs- Aching to Pupate (oh regina, please put another a capella song on an album)
Soviet Kitsch- Sailor Song (what do people have against this song? It's probably so tired of being the song after "Us" that everyone skips)
Begin to Hope- That Time (don't tell me this song doesn't make you laugh... haters)
Far- no pick (are there underrated songs on this album... I guess others don't like the Blue Lips production so much but I think its fantastic so...) Blue Lips
Random- I haven't heard enough live-only stuff to make my pick yet...

Overall- Sailor Song

- "You peer inside yourself..."

11:11-Back of a Truck. I don’t hear much about this song from other Regina fans. I think it characterizes New York really well, and it’s definitely the most epic and interesting of Regina’s songs about locations.
Songs-Lounge. Great song! It’s quirky, dark, and poetic. Definitely deserves more attention.
Soviet Kitsch (underrated, you ask? lol. I’d say this is the collection of the highest rated Regina songs!)-Chemo Limo. ‘Cause I had to pick one and this song is so thought provoking.
Begin to Hope-Lady. It’s epic.
far-Machine. one of the most chilling, real songs Regina has released, besides, perhaps, Ink Stains and Lady. Machine is very current and relevant.
Non-album tracks-Devil Come to Bethlehem: This one was close. It was a three-way tie between Devil, One-String Blues, and Mustard Musketeers. All great songs, but Devil Come to Bethlehem has such great musicality to it. (Is that a word?) And for my second: Secret Stash. The lines, “there might come a day when you’ve just got nothing to say
Nothing to think, and there’s nothing left to drink
Nothing to eat, you’ll be your own piece of meat” are so completely Regina: don’t attach yourself to anything material, don’t put any great value into things that perish, or that don’t matter, even when times are good, because, ultimately, they’re worthless. Instead, depend on yourself and be ready for the worst, so that if/when everything around you crumbles, you will be able to depend on yourself to get through it okay. I think this is a strong undercurrent in her music, and these lines sum it up very well.

Choosing one, i'm going with Back of a Truck. Big Grin

She won't make a sound, alone in this fight with herself and the fears whispering if she stands, she'll fall down.

So stand in the rain...

The Noise

Everyone seems to have forgotten about this one. It's such a beautiful song.

I guess I'll take a turn at my own game. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be....

11:11- Sunshine. This song is never talked about and never wins in any showdowns in that game Frowner I think it's brilliant. From the shifts in her voice to the lyrics.

Songs- Lounge. ohhhh geeeeez, it was between this and prisoners and daniel cowman. But Lounge definetley deserves to win. Once again, the lyrics!!! and that "trumpet" mouth noise part. I think most would turn and run away from her music at that point but it opened up a whole new creative light for me and I always attempt to sing along to that part but end up laughing Smiler It deepened my love, appreciation and acceptance for her music. I <3 lounge and it doesn't get enough credit.

you don't know what love is till you see,
her standing there
a web of skin and nails and hair
a web of skin and nails and hair
and bones and bones,
and thorns rushing in, out her hair

Soviet Kitsch- The Flowers. I feel this is Regina's most appreciated album though, for us it seems. The whole feel of the song, buildup and final climax of the ending <3 and the way it feels with the piano.

Begin to Hope- 20 Years of Snow. HOLY SHIT. The demo and the version on the album, chills. The noises at the end ahhhhh. The vocals and everything, in my beginning phases of reginitis this was on repeat all the time. It doesn't seem to get enough recognition ever for its awesomness.

Far- The Sword and The Pen. This is my most played song off of Far. It is something I wouldn't "expect" from regina. It is set up like pure poetry and the yearning in her voice ughhhh WOW. I just hope that people get the bonus tracks to hear this epic song.

Other- Making Records. This song is SOOOOO underappreciated, I think it was one of the last few I came across upon my full collection and I was so sad that I had been missing out on it. No one seems to brng it up ever around here and it doesn't win in that "battle" game Wink Once again, THE LYRICS. This other one is hard. ummm songs that come to mind... A cooler version, I cut off my hair, School is out, Belt, Woolen Gloves, Soho, and Open.

ahhhh Okay now it's between Open and School is out. School is out because OMG she wrote it when she was 18 and graduating high school, like I just went through and I completly feel her on the lyrics and the transitioning between places. The bathrooms, mirrors, acceptance letters, teddy bears, empty hallways. It's incredible how she gets the point across.

and as for Open. OMG the demo when she takes those deep breathes in between words? Chills. everytime. and when she holds "open" that note is insane. This was one of the later ones I discovered, I had the live version but not the demo recording which is so clear and AMAZING.

but anyways my 2 for other are going to be Making Records and School is Out.

OVERALL MOST UNDERRATED song in my opinion- *drumroll please* This will change tommorow but.... Making Records Big Grin

Edit: woah longest post in my history of posting.

11:11 - 2.99 cent blues not an easy choice, i almost chose flyin'. flyin' is less appreciated but 2.99 cent blues is just too infectious. how can someone make saying 2.99 so many times in a row sound so good?

Songs - Lounge easy choice, though it might be not so unappreciated now that a couple of people have voted for it in here. this song is incredible, not just the lyrics and the sounds and the noises (which are all fantastic) but this song has a feel to it.

Soviet Kitsch - Sailor Song i'm not sure if this song is unappreciated or just polarizing, but either way it doesn't get recognized. I love the verses, the chorus is deliciously bold, and there's something about americana tropicana that feels so right and terrible and perfect. Also there's a live version, i think at a festival, where she says 'cuz cuz cuz cuz sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' and i lurve it.

Begin to Hope - Lady this one was close, with stiff competition coming from Hero, Uh-Merica, Field Below, and Summer in the City, but Lady won for a couple of reasons. in no particular order: it's never been played live (that i'm aware of) and it's almost at the end of the album (excluding bonus tracks) meaning that so many people would never hear it even if they buy begin to hope because they may not get through the whole album, i can't remember the last time it was discussed on the forums, the sax omygod the sax, the flexible tempo, and it's just a fantastic song.

Far - Human of the Year ok so human of the year may get plenty of recognition as a song but i don't think it gets enough recognition in the context of this album, especially from what i can see in that 'best song on far' thread wherever that is. i'm a little bit biased to this song because it was my first obsession song but this version of the song really is incredible. the production doesn't get in the way until its needed in the beeping cars section and there the buildup with the strings and short choral bursts makes my heart beat faster and faster until it the buildup gets shattered just before it can reach its zenith. it's almost there and then its gone. AND THEN THE EXTENDED PAUSE!! i could go on for hours.

this is the hard part, there are soo many under appreciated songs to choose from but i'm going to go with two d songs: dog and pony and the devil come to bethlehem. I probably will change my mind on this one several times before i even click the little post now button. dog and pony though, i think it might be my favourite reg tune period. and devil come to bethlehem never never gets talked about or any sort of recognition but its so good. the characters joseph and mary seem so real without even having a lot of description the song feels like your inside a heartbreaking film with little dialogue. Also regina does something with her voice during the word frightening that melts me.

ok and my pick for overall under appreciated song is (and i will probably change my mind on this very soon): lounge. "a web of skin and nails and hair" - such a great image.

and that post was really long zomg.
