(this post is kinda biiger than I thought, but it's all worth it! so check it out! And if you know something you think the rest of us would find interesting, share it here!)
Ok, so after reading about the LEVY song that is apparently about Regina, I did a little search to see what else I could find. So I thought I'd post a couple random links. First, apparently she was in a FILM in 2002 called "Winning Girls Through Psychic Mind Control". Which, I searched in this forum and found an old 2002 post between Regina and someone who I assume is a friend of hers. No information is here though. I did find an old Google snapshot of the cast list page though. LINK: http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:hwW2p49cqKcJ:www.th...ina+spektor%22&hl=en If that link didn't work, you can go to http://www.thecannery.org to watch the trailer and see what it was all about. But there is no longer any info about Regina on there. Has anyone ever seen the movie by the way? It'd be fun to see Regina's part! Also I found that Regina has an IMDB.com profile which lists her as an ACTRESS! (*gasp) with two TV appearances as herself (on Leno & Conan). Someone with the know how should correct IMDB. LINK: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1258550/ Oh, one more tangent here. I also found a site referring to Regina & Levy coming from the "anti-folk" scene along with some other notables, the mouldy peaches, and "Kimya Woods". Would this have been a Pre-marital KIMYA DAWSON? Or did she simply change her name? Not really relevant, to this post though. The regina stuff is far more interesting to me! PS: Here's a nifty little excerpt about the Strokes collaboration that I found on antifolk.net/news.html --- 11/22/03 - The Strokes have written and recorded a collaboration with pianist and 'anti-folk' musician Regina Spektor. According to the band's longtime producer Gordon Raphael, the track - 'Modern Girls' - was recorded in Seattle during a break from The Strokes' current US tour. Moscow-born Spektor - who has been touring with The Strokes throughout their North American trek - sings joint lead vocals on the track, which is said to mark a significant change in direction for the New York five-piece. "I just got back from New York and Seattle watching The Strokes and Regina Spektor play amazing concerts," Raphael told XFM. "While in Seattle we recorded a brand new The Strokes song with Julian [Casablancas - Strokes' vocalist] and Regina singing the lead part together! "We recorded the song 'Modern Girls' at a gorgeous studio called Bear Creek out in the woodlands near town. "Jules and Regina sang outside next to hundreds of amazingly tall trees into very old vintage microphones whilst a German Shepherd dog named Ella (vator) sat between them on the grass." He added: "The song sounds like an old time jazzy rocker being played on a radio from the late 1940s...The effect of the two superb singers is breathtaking and quite emotional." According to Raphael, the song - which was performed live at recent concert dates in New York (October 29 - 30) - may eventually be released as a single. "They want to release the song under the name of Regina And The Strokes, like some unknown classic band from way-back," he said. "Watch out world this is the future..." This message has been edited. The movie I've been trying to find for a few months now. I found it playing at a theatre in New York a few months ago, but being several thousand miles away makes it hard to make the matinee. I've seen where she mentioned it in an IM interview from a few years back. She recorded several songs for it. A think a few were actually lip synced to the lead actress. Regina's voice coming outta someone else. It's just not right!

That's a cool little snippit of information!
I like this sharing of facts that we have heard about Regina! You know I was especially pleased to read the beautiful picture that was painted in my mind about the recording with the Strokes. - On the grass under sky-reaching trees, into a decades-old microphone with a dog laying between their legs... it's almost poetic. A moment in music history to be documented for sure. ---if we eat our soup in the rain, we'll never run out--- |

Nope, your info is right on the money. "Psychic Mind Control" has become more or less my holy grail of regiana -- and I always find out about screenings of the movie a month or two after they happen. But for the sheer novelty of hearing her sing "I Put a Spell on You", I think the quest will prove a noble one. JC - here's the unaltered old forum post to which you refer. Hmm... I never knew about this! I love old threads.
~~~~~~~ God, I pity the violins In glass coffins They keep coughing They've forgotten, forgotten how to sing |
Same here, I still find THIS to be the most interesting old thread. I think you've already seen it... But blah blah for others, basicaly regina dated James Levy from the band LEVY and sang about her in a song where much conclusion can be drawn.... he even uses her name and it was during the whole Julian Casablanca thing. Lyrics I've always wondered what regina was saying on the voicemail, I think she's saying "oooohhhhhhh god" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE FAMOUS FLOWER OF MANHATTAN..... Don't you ever miss me? Don't you ever miss meat? Don't you ever mince meat? Don't you ever mincth meat? |
I wasn't sure where to put this article. While someone may have posted it back in February, I realized one of the main Cracked.com columnists wrote pretty funny "A Breakup Letter" to Regina.
My Breakup Letter to Regina Spektor It's obvious he means sincerity in it [hey lays out his legitimate issues with her], but it's also clearly intended to be somewhat of a satire. I just wouldn't advise freaking out all over him because he dislikes or is tired of aspects of her song writing. LET'S ALL LAUGH, YAH??? HAR HAR! |
Pff, I love this comment: "a-fucking-men to this article. All of the diehard Spektor fans, I have a few questions for you. 1) What’s it like not listening to ACTUAL thought-provoking and well written music? 2) What the hell are you doing reading Cracked? 3) Have you ever noticed how appropriate her last name is, considering how ghoulish she looks?" I mean, come on, who does this person consider more thought provoking? Kanye?! I hope not, but it's probably so... ____________________________________ Come on and say you're sorry, real sorry, for the trouble that you've caused. Can't you see all this love? Can't you see all this love. |
^^ eww yea, I read that comment. And you're right, Kanye probably...
