I'm not certain how this is going to work, but as near as I can tell, she'll probably play something like 1/3 of a set or so. Last time she did the Mountain Stage thing, she played for a little over 30 minutes. However, that was when she was deathly ill. Although, it is regina, and she's a trooper. So, I'm guessing, had they wanted a full set, she'd have done one.
Set list from 2007 Ain't No Cover On the Radio Man of a Thousand Faces Better Ghost of Corporate Future Fidelity Summer in the City Real Love Samson Really if you're debating between this and Dickinson, I'd say go Dickinson. Or, if you're just insane like me, do both. I love you, that's why I'm here. |

According to Regina, and as my previous post suggested, plan on a 30min set. She also said, no guitar songs (b/c there isn't room on the stage) and no lights. haha
If anyone is interested I have one extra ticket. I love you, that's why I'm here. |

Can I just say that the fact that you can go, "Oh, well according to Reg, blah blah blah various information..." is about the COOLEST thing ever? And the little flower is like “What the fuck? I'm just a pink with blue spots little flower! And nobody else is like me!” |

Indeed, and Jamie got a video of it! Not a bad treat to throw in for those who came to see a 30 minute set, I'm sure it was great |

Now all songs from far have been played live... but yet not all from BTH. ----- "Now, (in the event of emergency), please know that this was written late at night. On a tour. In a hotel room. By candle light. In the 13th century. During a war." |

I consider myself one of the luckiest girls in the world. Officially, best weekend ever.
Now, that I've caught up on my sleep. May I present to you. The Calculation Folding Chair As promised. After trekking from Dickinson to WVU (and having flashbacks of my very first dental school interview there), I scoped out the location of the tour buses and went to get in line somewhere around 4pm. I was surprised to see the layout of the venue, which, as the tickets said, was truly a "creative arts center." It was a rather large building with multiple auditoriums and rooms inside. The concert was taking place in the largest theater which seated ~1400. Meanwhile there was some flute recital going on and another performance, possibly a play, had just finished and students were being greeted by family and friends. Basically I wandered around inside for a while investigating it all. There were two entrances, left and right- on opposite sides of the building, to the actual hall where the show was taking place. Three people were already waiting on the right. Obviously, I opted for the left and was alone there for at least an hour. Best part though, I was INSIDE, chilling in a nice chair not standing, freezing, enduring the elements etc. The place was nice! Too bad I couldn’t hear sound check at all, b/c it was so blasted noisy in the building. Although I was first in line, my girl was so freaking slow to rip my ticket. Thus, I was the second one inside on the left. The guy ahead of me was walking painfully slow...I wanted to push him. It took me a few seconds though to realize that I didn’t want to be anywhere near the center. I wanted FAARRR LEFT. The piano was just about as far to the left of the stage as it could’ve been, cutting off a maximum number of people’s view. I took the best seat, 3rd in from the left side. =) ----------------------- The show began with introductions & instructions from the Mountain Stage people. Basically, they acted like we were on the radio, even though we weren’t. However, the show is going to be edited down and broadcast eventually. They also informed us that this was the first ever sold-out Mountain Stage show (and they’ve been doing these for a long time). So, way to go Regina! Let me say, it’s often tough getting through openers, but this topped it all. FOUR bands plus random mountain stage tunes and set changes and babbling, before Regina. (hmm...maybe that’s how it used to feel at sidewalk when she had the prime time slots). Anyway, the first guy, Will Hoge, was pretty decent. The second, Sonny Landreth, was seriously AMAZING. Not the kind of music I listen to everyday, but there was no denying that he KNOWS how to play a guitar. The Great Lakes Swimmers, were ok. And Yo la tengo was meh. Maybe I was just sick of waiting, but I really didn’t like them much. Luckily there was very little time between sets, so the wait wasn’t completely unbearable. Finally, long-awaited regina made her way to the stage. She was wearing pants! It was a Nicole Atkins moment for sure.... She took her seat at the piano, which was much less fingerprinty than the night before, and began to crunch out songs. She said nothing, except one thank you towards the end. She didn’t even introduce the others, she was so intent on getting through as much as possible. She was totally focused on the task at hand. The audience was DEAD silent. Which I’d never complain about, but they felt a little dead. I dunno, at the Beacon it was quiet, but somehow I could feel the love. Here, well, it didn’t quite feel that way. Although, I understand, not everyone was there to see Regina. Don’t get me wrong though, quiet is nice. And I think regina thought so too, I am pretty sure I saw her eyes well at the end of Eet, as her little ticks were breathed into the unsullied silence. However, I was surrounded by DSLRs which pissed me off greatly. During the quiet parts in folding chair and during the sword and the pen I wanted to beat everyone who was clicking away with them. I had better see some damn gorgeous photos... I think had it been her own show, Regina would no doubt have yelled at them to stop. I had one on each side of me, two behind me, and then a Mountain Stage person decided to bring up something that more closely resembled a telescope than a camera, crouch right in front of me, and snap away during the most poignant (and also most quiet) moment of the show, The Sword and the Pen. Regina played quickly, but flawlessly. Although, I think she unintentionally changed a lyric in sword & the pen from "sweet" to "kind." I doubt anyone even noticed. She didn’t stumble over it or anything. It made me smile though. During the finale, pretty much everyone but reg was on stage doing solos on their respective instruments- including K and Dan. It wasn’t all that thrilling though. ----------------------- Afterwards, I went out fairly confident that another meeting with regina would be possible. A few people were milling around the buses, not many. A guy randomly started talking to me, saying he wanted to meet regina, and b/c I seemed like I knew what I was talking about, he was able to convince his wife that they should stay. I assured them I knew which bus was hers, and we could move up closer to it and to the building. After some minutes of waiting, a random Mountain Stage employee made a very concerted effort to come all the way from the building down the sidewalk to ask us (there were 4 of us total at that point) if we were waiting for someone. We replied "yes." He questioned further, "who?" The guy I was with replied, "Regina." Mt. Stage man offered, "ah well, I think you’re out of luck. She’s probably already back at the hotel. They rushed her out of here quick." The guys shook hands, and then the waiter and his wife wandered away. I, however, did not move. I knew it was, almost certainly, a lie. Shortly thereafter, Regina’s tour manager was easily accessible, and I asked him for her whereabouts. The look on his face was kind of like- why are you even asking me this- "of course, she’s inside, in her dressing room, getting ready. You should wait here." I pointed out that a venue person had just blatantly tried to deceive me, and he looked kind of shocked. Soon a couple other girls came up and questioned who I was waiting for. I assured them Regina, and that this was her bus. They then proceeded to ask me about 20 more times if I was SURE this was her bus. "That other bus has NY plates." "You’re really sure this is it?" "Yes." "How do you know?" "I’ve seen it before." "When?" "Last night..." Then 5 minutes later, "I swear I saw her one of her band members down there." "you’re really positive about this is it?" "100%" Another 6 people came to wait as well. I had to be the voice of reason when they all spazzed out when the bus was started and began to inch forward. "Guys, regina's piano needs to be loaded into that trailer, which is impossible to do when it's tight against the wall." Then, out of the blue, the guy and his wife, who I thought had left, suddenly returned. He said he wanted to see if I was still here...and why. I told him that guy had lied, and he was pretty horrified that he’d said thanks and shaken his hand. LOL. So all in all, 11 people waited. I was so flustered when she came out. Between having a bunch of stuff in my hands, lending sharpies to people, and being basically, the official photographer, it was a little hectic. But, she saw me and said, "oh, who is it? What’s changed in your life since last night?" To which I should’ve replied, "I’m a day older," but didn’t. We talked about the show and I told her I loved getting to hear the sword and the pen, even if she lead me astray the previous night saying ALL the songs would be band songs. She was happy that it had gone well, and claimed that this was "only like [her] second time playing it." WHEN ELSE DID SHE PLAY IT PEOPLE? Someone out there, was it in Europe? Did I miss something? I asked if she would be willing to write a lyric on my Zune. She obliged, and added a little extra, very pleased with her handiwork. Even though it was kind of chilly, I began ripping my jacket off, explaining that my sister bought me the dress I had on and would be extremely happy to know I wore it for something important, like seeing her. Her tour manager took the picture for us. Then, as I redressed myself, the guy who I’d waited with began asking questions about the meaning of Laughing With. I didn’t hear it all, but I felt oh-so awkward knowing what road he was going down, that she wouldn’t/wouldn’t be able to fulfill his request for "deeper meaning." I told her good luck on the rest of the tour if I didn’t see her again before Europe, and to take care of herself. She did seem a tad overwhelmed, noting that "there are A LOT of shows." We said good night and she told us to get home safe. I then began my 3.5 hour journey back to Cleveland completely wired. All in all, another amazing night. Completely worth it. I love you, that's why I'm here. |
