ok-there are billions of live versions out there. but what we should do is decide the best one for each song

Definitely I would include the Axis Boston, MA performance on April 9th, 2006 SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!
I'm all frazzled and shit |

it would be long, too long
Too many song, too many concerts If I should pick 2 concerts (it's hard to choose, so i won't really choose) , i would first think to: - 2005-03-30 @ Bowery Ballroom (New York) longest Regina's concert ever. around 2h30. - 2007-07-14 @ Regent Theatre (Melbourne). It sounds incredible despite disturbing audience. She sings in a very particular way, it gives a special atmosphere to this recording, and the sound goes through the space in the theatre, her voice grows from the scene to the walls of the theatre on some tune, wrapping the whole available space |

I have a playlist in my iTunes called "Reg Bests", made only of the finest live recordings of each of her songs. I've been updating it for years, but obviously it's limited to the songs that have actually been played & recorded live (keeping this list complete was a motivation for the Spektography thread). Originally "Reg Bests" was to be my repository of her live-only tracks in their best form, since no official versions existed - though many of what were once live-only, have now been on albums. The list has evolved to include everything Regina, because (if I may generalise) her officially recorded work can't exude her charisma, multiple talents, and personality, in the way that live recordings can.
I'm long-winded, I know. Here's the loose hierarchy which has decided the song versions on my list (when there's a tie between two tapings, the next number hopefully breaks it): 1) Best Sound Quality 2) Strongest Performance 3) Memorable Moments (quotes / singalongs) Exceptions DO exist. Examples like song/lyric variations, alternate endings, and good old-fashioned ties, have led to some songs being duplicated on the list, but I've tried to keep duplicates to a minimum. Also some shows sound so-superior to others that sometimes multiple songs can get represented by an individual day's taping (though from Regi's comments on recordings, I think she would prefer it that way - she doesn't like poor quality) Sooo, born from my longtime enjoyment & respect for Regina's music, I think I have just the list that you're looking for with this thread... or at least a good start for you to build on! When I have a chance to get the songs/recordings into a legible text format, I'll post it for ya. iTunes doesn't have the best options for doing that. PS - I'm pretty certain that I have every show that's ever been circulated within the Reginaverse... I definitely wouldn't want to go through them all again to remake the list. ---if we eat our soup in the rain, we'll never run out--- |
