There's already six pages of comments in the Far thread. You may want to visit it! Cool

i think its fine to move some of the far talk out of the thread.. especially when the album comes out i bet we'll have a lot to say and it's going to be hard to navigate just 1 when we can make as many as we like!

yeah i agree, i hate that i have to remember what page i last read on...47 or something and there's a bazillion different topics floating on the one thread that's almost 50 pages long! it's annoying! i say news of the first single and hearing/discussing it more than deserves it's own thread.

I think it's definitely okay to have a separate thread devoted to the single.
I love the production on this song, and her voice. Perfect. Nice backdrop of strings. It does seem like a very unusual choice for a single though. I think it'll find its niche though. I think Regina is at a point where enough people have heard of her that she can put out a song that isn't "Fidelity Part Two" and people can still apreciate it. It'll get heard.

They keep coughing
They've forgotten, forgotten how to sing

This thread will definitely be useful as we continue to get new stuff on far and that thread gets too full.

I just thought I should point out that this song has already gotten over 1000 views on youtube and over 21000 on myspace. So yeah... Big Grin

perez posted it on his website and I love the exposure for regina (as much as I hate him)

the reaction overall is positive there.. only 20 some comments though.

It's also the NUMBER 3 most e-mailed piece on his site. Good news. Smiler

2. Rihanna Naked!!!!!!!!
3. New Regina Spektor!!!!
4. Warning!
5. New from the Jonas Bros!

I love that more people emailed it than the jo bros new song =]

I hate that if I say no pun intended it makes it seem like the pun was intended, but it really wasn't i promise.

So what does everyone take from this song? I dont really understand the whole laughing at vs laughing with thing. Ive been thinking about it all day.....

Its pretty much
no one laughs at god(something horribly sad)
but he can be funny Smiler
no one laughs at god(something horribly sad)
but he can be funny Smiler
.....We are not laughing at God. We're all laughing with God

could someone explain what they think, i cant really connect the dots. Im in love with it though, replay, replay, replay

I think everyone takes it at face value about how people even atheists believe or are hopeful in god in troubled times.

But I think it's important that the song makes a point they're not laughing AT God but WITH him which really changes the meaning in my opinion.

But I don't really know what the song means haha.

i'm trying to think of it as the world sucks so bad that even god has to laugh at something (aka himself) or the world will just tear you to pieces with all the saddness in it.

but if i was to interpret it personally or not as a story, i'm having trouble. i don't believe in god, so it kinda cuts me short. i've never turned to believing in god during trouble times, and if someone does i don't believe they truly didn't believe in the first place.

I'll repost my take from the Far thread....

Pretty straightforward IMHO:

1) There are no atheists in foxholes. That is, when people are in dire straits they turn to a higher power whether they profess to believe in God or not.

2) On the other hand, when things are going well, we make light of weighty matters like a higher power/god.
