When she gets more serious, like on the arpeggiating "Genius Next Door" or "Man Of A Thousand Faces," she loses something.

Absolute bull. In fact, that is where she shines!

And I consider a B- in catchiness a compliment.

Also, female Ben Folds...not at all.

Another thing, in what world would Machine be described as "wacky"?

This is more like it!

"Far is her second best album, and it is so close to being as good as (or better than) Soviet Kitsch that it's almost scary." Big Grin Sputnikmusic has a weird community I very rarely agree with their reviews but this one is neat!

"Human of the Year" is a lighthearted, amusing song? If you say so...

I agree with this review a lot. Very true about her songs being straightforward but containing genius subtleties. That's why I don't play her music when I'm , say, working in the studio. It would be such a downer if I said to people "no, you have to really listen to the lyrics!!!" And I think that's why many people miss out on her, they're not willing to give each song the time that they require.

Lol yeah it's like saying: "Fidelity is a dark ode to the macabre."

Well, ya know, it is...
with all of its dark pizzicato strings and depressing lyrics about dismemberment and despair.

Another annoying review:

http://www.comfortcomes.com/20.../regina-spektor-far/

"I’ve never spent much time listening to Regina Spektor, so this won’t be much of a retrospective piece. Nor have I had the worst of luck lately, so this can’t be a very bitter piece. It’s for those reasons that this review is so glowing, or is it that Regina Spektor’s new album Far on Sire is really just that good, heeding no reason for “looking backs” or “fuck you’s.”"

Huh?

Does anyone else feel like these reviewers are completely missing the point when it comes to Regina?

No shit. I think most of them were looking for Fidelity, didn't find it and went onto the next CD.
