billboard.com should be reporting soon on its 'Building Chart,' which tracks how album's are likely to fare on the following week's chart.

Dammit. It looks like Jacko's demise will prevent Far from a #1 on Billboard! Couldn't he have died in 6 months?

What do you mean? None of his albums are eligible for the chart... They're all catalog titles.

It's absolutely amazing. In the course of a few hours, Far went from #1 on Amazon to #14, the first 13 slots all Michael Jackson albums.

The only way Michael Jackson could beat Regina on the charts was to die. I got to hand it to him.

The main album chart, the "Billboard 200," goes by sales. So it doesn't matter when the album is released, what matters is current sales.

From wiki: "The chart is based solely on sales (both at retail and digitally) in the United States. The sales tracking week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday. A new chart is published the following Thursday with an issue date of the following Saturday."

Regina deserves that #1!

what's the rush in buying Michael jackson's allbums all of the sudden?, so the guy dies and people get to like him more and feel the need to have his albums? I don't have anything against MJ fans but wtf...i don't get it

^^sorry to rain on the parade a bit, but Michael Jackson was a great artist and a huge American icon. His death is doing for his work what Heath Ledger's death did to Batman. and not that i don't think reg should be #1, but MJ has a great legacy (no matter what people might think of him) and he deserves this send off. if this hadn't happened, it would have been such a disgrace to his memory.

while the timing is definitely annoying, this is nothing to be griping about. and im sure reg would agree.

Meh. Now Jacko's going to dominate the charts for the next few weeks no doubt. Hopefully in the end Reg will get her deserved #1.

Does it really matter that she gets the #1? I mean, before MJ died, she showed her potential by reaching the top of different billboards...The album is the same, whether it occupies #1 or #345. The sales will be the same probably, in absolute numbers. Whoever wanted to buy "Far" will not change his/her opinion because MJ died. It is just that the MJ fan base is vastly bigger than Regina's, so the relative numbers are in favor of MJ. But that's OK too...When Regina is around as many years as he was, then we can compare sizes (not that size matters anyway... Big Grin)!

An album becomes disqualified from the Billboard 200 after meeting all of three criteria:
1.) It is more than 78 weeks old.
2.) It is not longer in the top 100.
3.) It no longer contains a single that is increasing in sales or airplay.

This applies to ALL OF HIS ALBUMS. They will be appearing on the Top Pop Catalog Chart, not the Billboard 200.

So everyone can just calm the f*** down. Smiler
