Last weekend I went home to see my parents (I'm taking class over the summer) and I went out to dinner with my parents. For the drive to restaurant I decided to bring along Soviet Kitsch so my Dad could hear Regina. After a few songs he said, "surely that can't hear playing the piano too." When I informed him it was indeed the oh so talented Miss Spektor playing he got this look on his face that was a mix of amazement/surprise/admiration. I left the cd in his car so he could get to know her better. We may soon have another Regina fan on our hands.

Well, I got BTH for my daughter for her birthday. (I didn't know anything about it.) She immediately loved it, and so did I.

I recall you telling us this before I think. Did you say what made you pick BTH? Was it her request? Just curious.....

My folks have no idea what goes on inside my iPod and headphones, I tried Regina out on my Mum but she wasn't having it and quickly asked me to put on some Cher... Confused

I guess some people just like what they like and wont change for anyone.

I picked it off the "new artist" shelf at B&N. I listened to many cds, but when I listened to Fidelity, that part where she sings, "I hear in my mind" hooked me. Also, I liked the bio which said her songs alluded to everyone from Oedipus Rex to Virginia Woolf. Sounded intriguing. My daughter, who is picky, loved BTH immediately. Me, too. I bought Soviet Kitsch 2 days later, and we went to see Regina the following weekend. Then bought the rest of the cds and downloaded the everything else. Smiler

Now that I came home for the holidays, my dad was questioning me about Regina Spektor. Since I’ve never been a big concert goer, but went to see Regina once and attempted to go to a second of her concerts. He was like, wow you must really like her! So while he was working I played him some Regina tunes on my ipod. It was actually hilarious to see my dad wearing an ipod. Anyway, he did not rip the headphones off immediately, which was a good sign. He listened to quite a few songs actually. His only comment was “she sings like Freddy Mercury- kind of all over the place.” Hehe, there’s a new comparison for you all. My dad really isn’t into music all that much, he’s more of a talk radio person. In the end, I suppose he was pretty approving. Smiler

I love you, that's why I'm here.

reg has said Queen was a major influence on her growing up so your dad's pick up of Freddy Mercury was quite intuitive. See us dads do know a thing or two. Wink

My dad isn't really into regina's music (yet!) but he he's so cool about me loving her...when she played in London last year (I couldn't get tickets Frowner ) he cut out a review from one of the papers and left it on the counter so I found it when I came home, hed written a little note on it saying next time she played in England he promised hed get me tickets!! was a really good review....except they called ain't no cover '8 miles high' quoted a line from poor little rich boy wrong! ('you've got a new girlfriend' instead of 'you don't love your girlfriend'!!! wtf??)

I've just had to re-read this a few times.
It's occurred to me that BTH isnt infact Bring Me The Horizon as I immediately thought

My dad is into BTH the most. Mostly just Fidelity and Samson actually. But he listens mostly to ballad pop and folk pop. But I still love him cause he's MY pop.

I've only ever let my mom listen to Regina (she said she liked her without exactly saying she liked her, luckily I understand momanese). Can't believe I've neglected dad! My parents both have pretty eclectic taste in music (they passed it on to their children) but my dad's a sucker for a female singing a slow, sweet song. I bet I could hook him with Samson Wink
