OMG, this is just too much of a joke. What the frak has he done for peace? In addition he's mulling sending 40K more troops to a WAR in Afghanistan. Is the committee smoking something?

Let's not forget who started said war. Here we have an honest man who is making an honest effort to improve things, yet he is met with opposition at every turn. Considering the HUGE pile of shit that was left on his plate and all the troubles he inherited when he was sworn into office, I think that president Obama is doing a fine job so far, and would be doing an even better job if certain idiots would stop throwing stones at him and lend him some support.

I fully support the decision that was made to award him this prize. He is honestly one of the most intelligent people of our time and deserves it completely!

Ah, another starry-eyed fan of the messiah.

Okay my opinion falls somewhere in between. makingstuffup is right, President Obama is absolutely doing the best job he can. But on the other hand, MusicLover has a point. Has he really done enough at this point to merit that award? Maybe this would make more sense five years from now.

Even worse, they awarded him 12 days after he was sworn in! This award was a "F U to GW Bush", and the left admits it.

My theory - this is to make it more difficult for Obama to start world war 3

He can't exactly go - yeah dudes, thanks for the peace prize BTW I'm invading Iran and Pakistan

alright, so it may be too soon, but musiclover, he wasn't awarded 12 days after the inauguration, that was just when the nominations had to be postmarked by. The actual voting just happened. Also, you've gotta chill with this "Messiah" nonsense.

But seriously, as much as right-wingers like to think he hasn't, the President has done more for global relations in a short time than anybody else. If the U.S. is really the greatest country on earth, then be better damn well act like it. I can't stand these American exceptionalists who think they're the best country and don't give a shit about what the rest of the world thinks. How narrow-minded can you be? The world needs the U.S., but it needs a responsible U.S. Obama, in a very short time, has been working his ass off to make the U.S. a useful part of the global community again.

And look: On September 24th, Barack Obama was the first sitting US president to chair a U.N. Security Council summit meeting. He then proceeded to talk up not just nuclear non-proliferation, but total nuclear disarmament. That's pretty damn peaceful.

The meeting was September 24th. The Nobel Committee last met on October 5th.

I just got this in my e-mail and thought it was appropriate to post here..

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

There's nothing peaceful about unilateral disarmament when our enemies are arming themselves to the teeth. Pacifism is for losers who want to die.

I think it's bizarre that he's been awarded the nobel peace prize. I guess for a lot of people he *symbolizes* peace and change and shit like that, but in reality, he hasn't actually done anything...

No matter your political beliefs....

I just want to add that the award was decided on February 1st, when he had been in office for 12 DAYS so it is kinda fishy no matter how you put it. It seemed to be based off of what he said he was going to do. The other 2 presidents who have won both completed their terms and proved themselves. It's an achievement award. And when you look at what some of the other winners have achieved... Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Elie Wiesel and MLK jr.

Not even Ghandi recieved the award.

Basically it is the "Human of the Year" Award. Such a high honor for a human being... that's why, if Obama can win after 12 days in office, I think Regina should win in 2010 Wink Anyone care to back up my nomination??? The joy her music brings does seem to bring me peace

Well, hopefully this thread will dry up tomorrow now that I threw my 2 cents in. ohhhh current events.

good HEAVENS!!!!

i cannot believe how much people feed into the absurd, impossible propaganda Barack Obama //allows himslef to be surrounded with//!!!

is he aware that he's being hyped as Jesus: Revamped?? does he know that people genuinely believe that //he will save the world?!// if not, then he's surrounded himself with anything but public relations, and shouldn't assume, as he did in this e mail, that we're supporting him. If he knows he's supported, he knows that too many people think that he's god. And that's something that needs to be nipped in the bud, Obama, Dear.

i'm not against him. i support him now that he's in office. i hope he makes wise decisions, and i pray for his safety and well-being. My beef here is that he accepts worship, and that's just not okay. it's not enough to say "i won't change the world alone". even Jesus had disciples. He needs to acknowledge that people have an unrealistic view of him. He should squelch this ridiculous movement, so that people will support him for what he really is, rather than allowing this religious, unrealistic, maniacal cult-following.

NOBEL PEACE PRIZE?!?! double you. tea. eff ?!?!?!
no. unacceptable. they'll apparently toss those to anyone with a decent PR firm. the nobel prize has been soiled. as alicia said, it's an achievement award. and whether he was selected to receive it, or whether he was nominated, Obama has done nothing worthy of a nobel prize. Unbelieveable.

i agree that this must be a deliberate slap in George Bush Jr.'s face. Which begs the question: is the nobel prize selection committee actually a group of twelve-year-olds? 1. don't blame the whole mess on Bush.
a) everybody wants to say he sucks, yet somehow he was, at some time, poopular and beloved enough to be elected the freaking president of the united states. i'm sure plenty of people thought he was going to save the world back then, eh? same story every election...
b) He did not create the entire mess on his own. The man was friggin in office for less than ten years! unless he's evil and hates america, spending every moment of his life trying to destroy it, bush is not sinlge-handedly responsible for everything blamed on him.
2. i don't care if the previous president was sadaam housain! you do NOT toss around /nobel peace prizes/ as a substitute for flicking off someone /you don't like/, or sticking out your tongue, or mooning them. Grow UP!

*twitch*

good night. Briana's cranky.

She won't make a sound, alone in this fight with herself and the fears whispering if she stands, she'll fall down.

So stand in the rain...

Good for him, but I am not sure why exactly.

I can see even more unbalanced Christian groups making their AnitChrist comparisons now.
